Lasanod_ Somalia, President Hassan Sh. Mohamoud seems to have broken his silence on the current massacre by Somaliland forces in Lasanod; speaking at a Friday prayer sermon, HSM stated that the Unity of Somalia as One nation is not negotiable, “We believe that Somaliland is part of Somali Union, we do not believe in separation”, We [as Federal Government of Somalia] do not “prepare our weapons” to force Separatist Somaliland to Join the Union. Similarly, you cannot force [SSC-Khatumo] Unionists to join separatists from which they declared their regional sovereignty. “If they say we need Union, the people of Sool must be listened to, We do not hold you accountable for your separatist ideals. The aspirations of local citizens is important and we should respect their Freedom of choice of government”, added the president.
Meanwhile, speaking at another Turkish earthquake fundraiser event, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, compared the earth quakes in Turkey and Syria to the “disaster” unfolding in the North eastern city of Lasanod, Somalia. “both events are grave Disasters” said the PM. Going back into Somalia’s history, he also reminded the audience that in 1988, Somali government in charge of protecting its citizens used weapons against its people, resulting in death and civilian displacements, it is sad to see 35 years later, that Somaliland “does the same today” against people of Sool; Such use of state force against civilian populations is a tragedy. And in order to facilitate meaningful negotiations, the PM reiterated the need for Somaliland forces to “retreat back” to their locations in Somaliland as the SSC traditional leaders requested.
Fast forward to day No 12 of the #sscgenocide, Somaliland forces continued their daily 12 hours dawn to dusk shelling of Lasanod city. According to local journalists, about 8 civilians were killed today as a result of indiscrimate mortars that originated form the Goja-Cadde attack positions of Somaliland forces. So, far, It is not clear if and when the Somali government or the International community will intervene in this modern day genocide. Tomorrow, will be day No 13 since the start of the Somaliland bombardment of Lasanod, and the SSC-Khatumo civilians continue to be sitting ducks … wondering when will the next mortar will fall on them !
